Can Blogging Help Teens with Anxiety?

Writing out your feelings is a great thing to do, but public journals or blogs are even better for teenagers than the traditional notebook and pen, according to recent studies.

The recent study shows that teenagers who use a blog to share their thoughts and feelings often find the activity to be very therapeutic. This is especially true when commenters offer them emotional support. In a recent study from the University of Haifa, teenagers who had social anxiety were separated into two groups. One group blogged about their thoughts and feelings, but their blogs were not open to comments. Another group also blogged about their thoughts and feelings, but their blogs were open to comments. The study showed that the group who had blogs that were open to comments received the most benefits.

Writing out your thoughts and feelings, especially when you can discuss them with other teens who are struggling with anxiety all over the globe, can be incredibly beneficial. There are plenty of places online where you can blog. Try WordPress.com, Tumblr, or Blogger. These are online communities that have a ton of users already that will welcome you and read your blog.

I think one of the most important things to remember for teens that have anxiety is that it is healthy to express your thoughts and feelings, and it is extremely helpful to discover that you are not alone. Other teens have anxiety, and other people understand everything you are going through. When you realize this, you feel less alone, more connected to others, and you feel less anxious.

So why not try blogging? It can be an incredibly therapeutic activity, and you’ll find that when you can share your thoughts with the world, you will feel less alone, and you will feel like there are people who understand you and are willing to listen. Because the thing is, there are people who know what you are going through and who will be compassionate and help you through it.
